Six years later, Jansen along with friends and family members are looking for signatures from veterans for a petition that would create the "Purple Star" organization.
The organization would help returning soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder and suicide.
"There is no support system out there for them, unless they reach out themselves," said Former Marine Jeremy Janssen.
"What we are trying to do is provide a social network if you will for these veterans and also their families, to talk to each other and receive support."
The organization is looking for 1000 signatures to receive a national charter.
The group plans to hold a fundraiser explaining the dangers of post traumatic stress in the military April 6 at Ashland House in Morton
